How to exercise for children with diabetes?

Lively and active are the nature of children, children with diabetes can choose the appropriate exercise according to age and personal preferences after a better control of blood glucose. Many parents worry that their children are physically weak, therefore prohibit their children participate in sports activities but lie in bed for a long period, which does harm rather than good to these pediatric patients.

Like adults, the way of physical exercise that children choose should also vary from person to person, a certain amount of systemic exercise is necessary; meanwhile, the entertainment of physical exercise is also very important, since interesting sports activities are conducive to the long-term exercise of children. Appropriate exercise types include riding, play skateboard, running, and ball games, etc., all of which are suitable ways of physical exercise. Pay attention to the amount of exercise, children's self-control is relatively poor, sometimes they are easy to be addictive to the games and forget to give an injection in time, or take medicine and get their food in time, which are definitely harmful to the control of blood glucose.

In addition, more attention should be paid to avoid the occurrence of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) when children participate in physical exercise. Dehydration should also be prevented when the weather is too hot and the exercise time is relatively long. A little food, candies and water are best to be carried during the course of exercise, in case of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) or feeling thirsty. Any dangerous sports should be avoided at peak times of insulin action in children with the injection of insulin, such as climbing or swimming, in order to avoid hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and something unexpected occurred. Children should have bed rest and avoid exercise when they have colds, fever or diabetic ketoacidosis.
